Indiana Tech Sweeps Doubleheader Against Rochester Christian

UTICA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team swept Rochester Christian on Sunday, taking game one 7-5 in seven innings and game two 20-4 in seven innings.
 
Indiana Tech took the lead in game one when a run came around to score on an error in the top of the second. Ben Hammond followed with an RBI groundout to put Indiana Tech ahead 2-0.
 
The game remained 2-0 until the fifth. A two-RBI double by Garrett Rainey put Indiana Tech ahead 4-0. Jack Ferguson followed with a two-RBI single to make it 6-0.
 
Another run came around to score on an error in the top of the sixth, putting Indiana Tech ahead 7-0.
 
Rochester Christian scored five runs in the sixth to make it 7-5, but Indiana Tech closed the door in the seventh to secure the 7-5 win.
 
Garrett Rainey led Indiana Tech with two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Jack Ferguson also had two RBI. Jorge Santana had the lone stolen base for Tech.
 
Luke Myers picked up the win, allowing two runs in 5.1 innings. Kade Robinson followed in relief, and Colton Leatherman threw 1.1 scoreless innings to pick us his sixth save of the season.
 
Indiana Tech took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of game two on an RBI single by Derek Ruiz. Garrett Rainey connected on a two-run home run to put Indiana Tech ahead 3-0. With the bases loaded, Keelan Dunkle connected on a grand slam to make it 7-0. Another RBI single by Derek Ruiz made it 8-0, and a two-run home run by Ben Morrison put Tech ahead 10-0 in the first inning.
 
Rochester Christian scored two runs in the first and one run in the second to make it 10-3.
 
An RBI triple by Derek Ruiz in the top of the third made it 11-3 Indiana Tech. An RBI single by Ben Morrison made it 12-3, and an RBI double by Jack Ferguson put Tech ahead 13-3.
 
After RCU scored a run to make it 13-4, an RBI single by Jack Ferguson in the top of the fourth put Tech ahead 14-4.
 
Indiana Tech scored another run in the sixth on a dropped fly ball to take a 15-4 lead. Another Jack Ferguson RBI made it 16-4, and an RBI single by Levi Laymon put Tech ahead 17-4. Ben Hammond followed with a three-run home run to give Indiana Tech a 20-4 lead, which would be the final score in seven innings.
 
Derek Ruiz led Indiana Tech with four hits and four runs scored. Keelan Dunkle had a team-high four RBI. Jack Ferguson doubled, and Derek Ruiz tripled. Ben Morrison, Garrett Rainey, Ben Hammond, and Keelan Dunkle all homered. Jorge Santana, Derek Ruiz, Ben Morrison, Garrett Rainey, and Jack Ferguson all stole a base.

Andrew VanOeveren got the start and the win, allowing two earned runs in four innings. Danny May followed with two scoreless innings, and Gary Glaser III threw a scoreless inning to close it out.
 
Indiana Tech moves to 13-7 overall and 3.1 in WHAC play. The Warriors return to action on Wednesday at IU Kokomo.
