Women’s Lacrosse Drops Season Opener in Top Ten Matchup at Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The #8 Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team opened their season on Monday afternoon with a top ten matchup on the road against #2 University of the Cumberlands (Ky.).

After a long offseason and preseason, the Warriors would take some time to get back into game action. The first quarter would be all Cumberlands as they took a 7-0 lead. Once Tech settled in, the game would be fairly even over the final three quarters. Kylie King opened the scoring for the Warriors, while Tech closed the half on a 3-0 run, matching the Patriots with four goals apiece in the period. In the third quarter, Cumberlands would gain control again to extend their lead, but the Warriors wouldn't give up, fighting to the final whistle. The #2 Patriots would pick up their seventh win of the season as they have been elite all year. Despite the loss, the Warriors put in eight goals, marking the highest goals allowed the Patriots have given up this season. Lilliana Rivera led the charge for Tech in her Warrior debut, scoring three goals and adding one assist, while also recording four draw controls. Jada Pope chipped in on offense, posting three points from one goal and two assists. Gabby Hitchcock had a team high six ground balls and one caused turnover, while Cyn'Cere McRae had two caused turnovers, one ground ball, and one draw control. Kat Hoff played the full 60 minutes in goal for Tech and made ten saves.

The Warriors start the season 0-1 and will host their first home game up next on Saturday on Thursday, March 4th at 1pm at Warrior Athletic Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana against #7 Missouri Baptist University in another top ten matchup.
