LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Indiana Tech baseball team swept a doubleheader on Friday, defeating Georgetown 17-4 and No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett 2-1.
Indiana Tech scored first against Georgetown. A two-RBI single by
Keelan Dunkle in the top of the second put the Warriors ahead 2-0. Georgetown answered in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 2-2.
An RBI single by
Derek Ruiz in the top of the fourth put Indiana Tech ahead 3-2. An RBI single by
Ben Morrison made it 4-2 Warriors.
In the top of the fifth, an RBI single by
Levi Laymon made it 5-2. A sacrifice fly by
Keelan Dunkle made it 6-2, and an RBI single by
Noah McEldowney put the Warriors ahead 7-2.
A two-RBI double in the top of the sixth by
Garrett Rainey extended the lead to 9-2. An RBI single by
Jack Ferguson made it 10-2. A run came around to score on an error to make it 11-2, and an RBI single by
Noah McEldowney made it 12-2.
Georgetown scored a run in the sixth to make it 12-3, but a sacrifice fly by
Logan Rybarczyk in the seventh extended the lead back to 10 at 13-3.
Indiana Tech led 13-4 going into the ninth. A sacrifice fly by
Keelan Dunkle made it 14-4. Three runs scored on two errors and a wild pitch to make it 17-4, which would be the final score.
12 different Warriors recorded a hit in the contest as Indiana Tech had 20 total hits in the game.
Noah McEldowney led the way with three hits, including a double.
Keelan Dunkle had a team-high 4 RBI.
Derek Ruiz,
Ben Morrison, and
Jeremy Pudlik all stole a base.
Austin Byford got the start and the win, allowing three runs in 5.1 innings.
Andrew VanOeveren picked up the save, throwing 3.2 innings in relief.

Garrett Rainey.
The game remained 1-0 through four innings when a lightning delay stopped the game. Both teams made pitching changes when the game returned and the relievers picked up where the starters left off, keeping the game at 1-0 through eight innings.
With one out in the ninth,
Brycen Hannah connected on a solo home run to put Tech ahead 2-0. Georgia Gwinnett scored a run in the ninth to make it 2-1, but the tying run was stranded at second base as the Warriors secured the 2-1 win, their fourth over a top 10 team this season.
Garrett Rainey had two of the six hits for Indiana Tech.
Jeremy Pudlik had the lone stolen base for the Warriors.
Noah Redmon got the start, allowing just one hit in four scoreless innings, striking out five.
Kaden Plank picked up his fourth win of the season out of the bullpen, throwing three scoreless innings.
Colton Leatherman picked up his fifth save of the season, throwing two innings in relief.
Indiana Tech moves to 8-4 on the year. The Warriors return to action on Saturday against both Georgetown and No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett.
