Warriors Earn Split on Opening Day in Arizona

TUCSON, ARIZ. – Indiana Tech softball split a pair of games Saturday at Lincoln Park, falling to Embry-Riddle (AZ) in the opener before bouncing back with a walk-off victory over Dakota Wesleyan (SD) in game two. In the first game, Embry-Riddle jumped out to an early lead and went on to defeat Indiana Tech 8–0 in five innings.

The Eagles plated three runs in the opening inning on a two-run double followed by an RBI single to take an early advantage. Embry-Riddle added three more runs in the second inning to extend the lead to 6–0.

Indiana Tech was limited to just two hits in the contest, coming from Carlye Walter and Melissa Cabrera. Embry-Riddle added another run in the third before a solo home run in the fifth inning sealed the 8–0 result.

In game 2 Indiana Tech responded in game two with a 4–3 extra-inning win over Dakota Wesleyan. Dakota Wesleyan struck first in the fourth inning, but the Warriors answered in the bottom half. Haylee Pruitt scored the first run for Indiana Tech before Alyssa Harvey crossed the plate on a fielding error to tie the game. Carly Basham later drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Warriors the lead, and Mae Griffore added another run to make it 3–1.

Dakota Wesleyan tied the game at 3–3 in the fifth inning, and the score remained deadlocked until the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, Rhiannon McKay came around to score the game-winning run when Morgan Macek dropped down a bunt single, giving Indiana Tech the walk-off victory.

The Warriors finished with eight hits in the win. In the circle, Savannah Bravo tossed a complete-game effort, striking out nine over eight innings to earn the victory.Indiana Tech continues play in Tucson on Sunday with matchups against the University of Providence (Mont.) and Dickinson State University.
