FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team swept Defiance in a doubleheader on Friday, taking game one 13-0 in seven innings and game two 13-2 in seven innings.
Indiana Tech took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first of game one on an RBI groundout by
Jack Ferguson. A sacrifice fly by
Brycen Hannah made it 2-0, and an RBI single by
Derek Ruiz made it 3-0.
A second sacrifice fly by
Brycen Hannah gave Indiana Tech a 4-0 lead in the third. A two-RBI single by
Derek Ruiz made it 6-0.
An RBI double by
Ben Morrison in the fourth put Tech ahead 7-0.
Derek Ruiz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 8-0.
An RBI double by
Noah McEldowney in the sixth made it 9-0. An RBI double by
Ben Hammond made it 11-0.
Jacoby Roberson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 12-0. A sacrifice fly by
Keegan Miller made it 13-0, which would be the final score.
Derek Ruiz led Indiana Tech with three hits and four RBI. Indiana Tech had five stolen bases in the win.
Noah Redmon got the start and the win, throwing a seven-inning three-hit complete game shutout while striking out eight.
Game two saw Defiance take a 2-0 lead in the first. Indiana Tech answered with a run in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1.
A two-run home run by
Keelan Dunkle in the fourth made it 3-2 Indiana Tech. Another run came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 4-2.
Derek Ruiz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 5-2, and a sacrifice fly by
Brycen Hannah made it 6-2.
A three-run home run by
Jorge Santana in the fifth made it 9-2. An RBI groundout by
Levi Laymon in the sixth put Tech ahead 10-2. A run came around to score on an error to make it 11-2. Another run came home to score on a wild pitch to make it 12-2, and an RBI double by
Garrett Rainey made it 13-2, which would be the final score.
Garrett Rainey,
Keelan Dunkle, and
Levi Laymon all had two hits.
Jorge Santana led Tech with three RBI. The Warriors had four extra base hits and three RBI.
Austin Byford got the start but left the game in the first.
Kaden Plank got the win, throwing five scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit.
Gary Glaser III and
Ricky Bennett both threw scoreless innings in relief.
Indiana Tech moves to 29-13 overall and 18-4 in WHAC play. The Warriors return to action on Sunday at Lourdes.
