FORT WAYNE, IND. - Indiana Tech earned a hard-fought victory over Lawrence Tech on Saturday at Warrior park.
Lawrence Tech struck first with a two-run home run in the opening inning and added another run in the third to take a 3–0 lead. Indiana Tech responded in the bottom of the third when
Morgan Macek blasted a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 4–2 and shift momentum back toward the Warriors.
The scoring continued in the fourth as
Rhiannon McKay delivered a key two-RBI single, tying the game at 4–4 after scoring on an error and bringing home
Alyssa Fox.
Lawrence Tech briefly regained the lead in the fifth with two runs to go up 6–4.
Indiana Tech refused to go away. In the sixth inning, Macek came through again, ripping a two-run double to center field to even the score at 6–6. The Warriors completed the comeback in the seventh when
Melissa Cabrera singled to drive in
Carlye Walter, giving Indiana Tech its first lead of the game at 7–6.
Macek led the offense with a huge performance, driving in four runs, while Cabrera added a multi-hit game and the go-ahead RBI. McKay also played a key role with two hits and two RBI.
In the circle,
Savannah Bravo and
Mallory Stinson combined to limit Lawrence Tech late, with Stinson earning the win after 4.1 innings of relief work to close out the game.
With the win, Indiana Tech improved to 32–14 and advanced in the WHAC Tournament to play again on Sunday.
