Warriors Split Season Series with Blue Devils

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 6 Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team hosted No. 10 Lawrence Tech University in a big conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon that ended in controversy as the Warriors fell in the final seconds 10-11.

Indiana Tech would get on the board first on a goal from Lauren Hainlin just 40 seconds into the contest, before Lawrence Tech scored four straight goals to go in front. The Warriors would battle back near the end of the second period but still trail 4-6 at halftime. They would take that momentum into the third quarter where a 3-0 run would bring them level 7-7 midway through. However, LTU would then go on a 3-0 run of their own to regain a three goal advantage into the fourth. Tech wouldn't go away though. Hainlin would score with 6:40 left to play and Michelle Farrell would score a pair of goals at 4:01 and 1:19 to tie the game up again at 10-10. Then in the final minute, Lawrence Tech would score the game winner on a shot that seemed to be saved by goaltender Kat Hoff, but the officials awarded the Blue Devils a goal. Tech had one final chance to tie it again with 20 seconds left but LTU would make the save as the Warriors drop the contest 10-11 and split the season series with the Blue Devils at one apiece. Farrell led the Warriors with five points (2 G, 3 A), followed by Hainlin with four (3 G, 1 A). Farrell would also lead the Warriors with four ground balls and had one caused turnover and two draw controls. Addie Creech and Jessica Leigh each had three draw controls to lead the Orange & Black. Hoff played well in goal for Tech, making 13 saves and grabbing two ground balls in 60 minutes.

The Warriors drop to 7-3 overall and suffer their first conference defeat of the season, now sitting at 5-1. Tech has a one game lead over Lawrence Tech and is tied with No. 9 Marian University at the top of the standings, setting up a huge top of the table contest against the Knights on Saturday, April 11th in Indianapolis, Indiana.
