ROCKFORD, Mich. – The 2 seed Indiana Tech baseball team defeated 8 seed Cornerstone 18-9 to advance in the WHAC Baseball Tournament.
Cornerstone took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
An RBI single by
Garrett Rainey in the bottom of the first tied the game at 1-1. Another run scored on an error to give Indiana Tech a 2-1 lead. An RBI single by
Brycen Hannah gave Tech a 3-1 lead.
Cornerstone scored a run in the second to make it 3-2. Another run in the third tied the game at 3-3.
Cornerstone scored four runs in the fourth to take a 7-3 lead.
A two-RBI single by
Jorge Santana in the bottom of the fourth made it 7-5.
A sacrifice fly by
Derek Ruiz in the fifth made the score 7-6. An RBI single by
Brycen Hannah tied the game at 7-7. A double steal allowed Tech to take an 8-7 lead. A bases clearing triple by
Ben Morrison gave Tech an 11-7 advantage. An RBI single by
Jack Ferguson made it 12-7.
A two-RBI single by
Keelan Dunkle in the sixth put Tech ahead 14-7. A bases loaded walk to
Ben Morrison made it 15-7. A two-RBI single by
Derek Ruiz put Tech ahead 17-7. An RBI single by
Brycen Hannah made it 18-7.
Cornerstone scored two more runs, but Indiana Tech would secure the 18-9 win.
Jack Ferguson led Indiana Tech with four hits.
Ben Morrison had a team-high four RBI.
Kail Baughman got the start, allowing three earned runs in 3.0 innings.
Dean Sommer followed with an inning in relief.
Danny May got the win, allowing two runs in 3.1 innings.
Colton Leatherman closed the game with 1.2 scoreless innings.
Indiana Tech moves to 38-14 on the season. The Warriors will take on 7 seed Lawrence Tech in another elimination game at 10:00 AM on Saturday at Meijer Park.
