ROCKFORD, Mich. – The 2 seed Indiana Tech baseball team forced a winner-take-all game in the WHAC Tournament but ultimately fell to 3 seed Madonna in the WHAC Championship.
Madonna took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one.
An RBI groundout by
Jorge Santana in the third tied the game at 1-1. An RBI double by
Garrett Rainey gave Indiana Tech a 2-1 lead. Madonna tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third.
An RBI single by
Jorge Santana in the fifth put Indiana Tech ahead 3-2. Madonna tied the game once more in the fifth at 3-3.
An RBI single by
Ben Morrison in the seventh put Tech ahead 4-3. An RBI single by
Garrett Rainey made it 5-3. Madonna responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it 5-5.
An RBI single by
Levi Laymon in the eighth put Indiana Tech back up 6-5, but Madonna scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 9-6 lead.
An RBI single by
Derek Ruiz in the ninth made it 9-7, and a two-out, three-run home run by
Brycen Hannah put Indiana Tech ahead 10-9, which would be the final score.
Keelan Dunkle led Indiana Tech with three hits.
Brycen Hannah had a team-high three RBI.
Noah Redmon got the start, allowing five runs in 6.1 innings while striking out six.
Kaden Plank and
Colton Leatherman combined for an inning in relief.
Danny May got the win, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings.
An RBI single by
Jack Ferguson in the bottom of the first of game two put Indiana Tech ahead 1-0. A double steal put Tech up 2-0 in the opening frame.
An RBI single by
Keelan Dunkle in the second put Tech ahead 3-0. An RBI single by
Jorge Santana made it 4-0, and an RBI double by
Ben Morrison made it 5-0.
Madonna scored four runs in the fourth to make it 5-4. Three more runs in the fifth put Madonna up 7-5.
An RBI single by
Noah McEldowney in the sixth made it 7-6, but Madonna scored two more runs in the seventh to take a 9-6 lead.
Indiana Tech brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but it was Madonna who secured the 9-6 win.

Jack Ferguson, and
Keelan Dunkle all had two hits apiece for Indiana Tech.
Kaden Plank got the start, allowing four runs in four innings.
Keegan Miller took the loss, allowing three runs.
Dean Sommer threw allowed two runs in two innings in relief, and
Kade Robinson closed with 2.1 scoreless innings.
Indiana Tech closes the WHAC Tournament with a 41-15 record. The Warriors will have to wait to find out if they receive an at-large bid to the NAIA Baseball Opening Round during the NAIA Selection Show on Wednesday, May 6 at 5:00 PM ET/4:00 PM CT on the NAIA YouTube channel.
