UPLAND, Ind. – The 3 seed Indiana Tech baseball team outlasted 2 seed Abraham Baldwin 16-10 to advance to the winner's bracket in the Upland Regional in the NAIA Baseball Opening Round.
Indiana Tech took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI triple by
Jack Ferguson. Abraham Baldwin scored three in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead.
An RBI double by
Dane Richards in the top of the second made it 3-2. A two-run home run by
Derek Ruiz in the third, his first of the year, put Tech ahead 4-3. A solo home run by
Brycen Hannah made it 5-3.
ABAC scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-5 lead.
An RBI single by
Garrett Rainey in the top of the fourth made it 7-6. ABAC responded with a run in the fifth to take an 8-6 lead.
An RBI double by
Brycen Hannah in the top of the seventh made it 8-7. An RBI single by
Dane Richards tied the game at 8-8. A two-RBI double by
Jorge Santana put Tech ahead 10-8. An RBI single by
Ben Morrison made it 11-8, and an RBI single by
Jack Ferguson made it 12-8. A grand slam by
Brycen Hannah capped off the 10-run inning for Tech to put the Warriors ahead 16-8.
ACAB scored two in the ninth, but Indiana Tech secured the 16-10 win.
All nine starters had a hit for Indiana Tech.
Ben Morrison,
Brycen Hannah, and
Noah McEldowney each had three hits. Hannah led Tech with 6 RBI. Tech had eight extra base hits in the win.
Noah Redmon got the start, throwing three innings.
Kaden Plank got the win, allowing three runs in 5.2 innings in relief.
Colton Leatherman got the final out to secure the win.
Indiana Tech moves to 42-15 on the year. The Warriors will take on 1 seed Taylor in the winner's bracket at 2:30 PM on Tuesday.
