FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Indiana Tech women's ice hockey team battled through a hard-fought home opener against Purdue University Northwest on Friday night, ultimately earning a 1-0 victory for its first win of the season and the first career win at Indiana Tech for head coach Mike O'Grady and assistant Brooke Almond.

In the first two periods, neither team was able to find the back of the net. With both sides battling for every opportunity, the Warriors continued to apply pressure while keeping Purdue Northwest off the scoreboard, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

With just four minutes into the third period, Halle Murray broke through to give Indiana Tech the lead and ultimately the game-winning goal. Murray was assisted by Keisha McLeod and Avery Johnson, giving the Warriors the 1-0 advantage.The Warriors held on through the final minutes to secure the shutout victory and open their home opener with a win.

The victory also marked the first win for O'Grady and Almond at the helm of the Warriors. The new head coaches were assisted by John Salway, who is entering his third season as an assistant coach with Indiana Tech.

Indiana Tech will look to build on the momentum from its home-opening victory as the Warriors continue their season on the road, traveling to Purdue University Northwest Sunday, September 27th at 2:30 PM.
