FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team took down (RV) Cornerstone in four sets on Saturday, handing the Golden Eagles their first WHAC loss of the season.
Indiana Tech led 11-6 early in set one. Cornerstone cut the lead to two at 16-14 to force an Indiana Tech timeout. Cornerstone cut the lead to one at 19-18, but a 3-0 run by Indiana Tech extended the Warrior lead to 22-18. The Golden Eagles once again cut the lead to one on three separate occasions, but a kill by
Olivia Kracium gave Indiana Tech the 25-23 first set win.
Indiana Tech led 11-9 in the second set, but an 8-1 run gave Cornerstone a 17-12 lead. Indiana Tech fought back to cut the Cornerstone lead to three, but the Golden Eagles won set two 25-21.
Indiana Tech jumped out to a 12-3 lead in set three. Cornerstone answered with a 12-2 run to take a 15-14 lead. Indiana Tech took a 23-19 lead, but Cornerstone fought back to cut the lead to one at 23-22. Indiana Tech took a 24-22 lead, but back-to-back points by Cornerstone tied the set at 24-24. With the set tied at 25-25, back-to-back kills by Indiana Tech gave Warriors a 27-25 lead.
Indiana Tech led 5-0 to open the fourth set, forcing an early timeout. With Indiana Tech ahead 13-8, Cornerstone cut the lead to one at 13-12. Indiana Tech responded with three straight points to extend their lead to 16-12. Cornerstone cut the lead to two on several occasions but never got any closer as Indiana Tech would take the fourth set 25-20 and the match 3-1.
Hannah Teich tied a career-high with 16 kills and led Tech with five aces.
Lauren Snyder added 15 kills, and
Olivia Kracium set a career high with 14 kills and 4.0 blocks.
Kristin Matlack led Tech with 47 assists, and
Karleigh Hutchins had a team-high 24 digs.
Indiana Tech moves to 17-6 overall and 6-1 in WHAC play. The Warriors return to action on Friday at Defiance.
