Tech Splits Two Matches on Day Two of Liz Lykwoski Memorial Tournament

 
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team split two matches on Day Two of the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament, sweeping Saint Ambrose before falling to No. 22 IU Kokomo in three sets.
 
With the first set of match one tied at 9-9, Indiana Tech used a 5-0 run to take a 14-9 lead. With Tech ahead 18-13, Saint Ambrose used a 7-1 run to swing the lead in their favor at 20-19 to force an Indiana Tech timeout. The Warriors came out of the timeout with a 5-1 run and would go on to take the first set 25-22.
 
Indiana Tech opened the second set on a 4-1 run and the lead held steady for the remainder of the set. Leading 16-13, Tech used a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 20-13. The Warriors would go on to take the set 25-16.
 
Tech used a 6-0 run to open set three to force an early timeout. Another 6-0 run would give Tech a 16-6 lead, and the Warriors would go on to cruise to a 25-18 set three win, taking the match 3-0.
 
Hannah Teich led Indiana Tech with 11 kills and 6.0 blocks. Kristin Matlack had 30 assists, and Abby Lane had a team-high 10 digs. Both Matlack and Elizabeth Hudnall each had two aces apiece.
 
Indiana Tech took a 9-3 lead in set one against IU Kokomo, but the Cougars responded with a 7-1 run to tie the set at 10-10. Indiana Tech used another run to jump ahead 16-12, but IUK fought back to tie the set at 18-18. With Tech ahead 19-18, IUK scored six straight points to take a 24-19 advantage. IUK would take the first set 25-20.
 
IUK opened the second set with a 10-2 run. The lead swelled to 17-6, and the Cougars would go on to take the second set 25-14.
 
Tech led 12-9 in the third set before three straight points by IUK tied the set at 12-12. Tech then led 16-13 to force a timeout, but a 4-0 run swung the lead in IUK's favor at 17-16. Tech once again took a lead at 21-19, but IUK used a 6-1 run to take the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
 
Lauren Snyder led Indiana Tech with 17 kills. Hannah Teich and Kristin Matlack both had 4.0 blocks to lead the team. Matlack had a team-high 25 assists, and Karleigh Hutchins had 17 digs to lead the team.
 
Indiana Tech now sits at 11-5 overall. The Warriors return to action on Wednesday at home for their WHAC opener against UNOH.
