MIDWAY, Ky. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team wrapped up their three-day road trip on a high note, defeating Midway University 3-1 on Monday afternoon.
The Warriors would put up an all-around team performance, dominating the game and never trailing in this one.
Isidora Pozo got things started for The Orange & Black with a goal in the 12
th minute of the game, her second goal in the last three games, as the freshman has started to find her footing in the college game. The Tech defense would step up, only allowing four shots all game, with only one on target. However, that shot would result in the lone goal for the Eagles as they tied the game just before halftime, making it 1-1. The Warriors would regain the lead early in the second half, courtesy of
Leticia Guimaraes, who scored her first collegiate goal in the 52
nd minute, which would ultimately end up being the game winner. But
Laniya King would make sure to secure the victory for the Warriors, scoring a big insurance goal in the 73
rd minute to make it 3-1. Tech would see out the remainder of the game to earn their first victory of the season.
The Warriors would put up a season high 20 shots with 10 on goal, forcing the Midway keeper to make seven saves to keep the game from becoming a blowout. Guimaraes,
Payton Kuhn, and
Chante Perkins each recorded two shots on target for the Warriors.
Shelby DeRidder would pick up an assist on Pozo's goal, while also registering one shot on goal.
Madison Strain would earn the win in goal for Tech.
The Warriors improve to 1-4-1 overall this season and will head home for their next match on Tuesday, September 15
th against Calumet College of St. Joseph at 5pm at Warrior Athletic Field.
