John Dunn is entering his third season (2020) as the head coach of the Indiana Tech men's soccer team following a nine-year career at West Virginia University Institute of Technology. He owns a 32-10-2 record at Indiana Tech with a career mark of 73-26-8 over five years as a head coach.
During his first two years in the Summit City the Warriors have had 31 players named to the WHAC All-Academic Team, eight student-athletes named First-Team All-Conference, five garner Second-Team All-Conference accolades, three earn NAIA All-America honors, one WHAC Newcomer of the Year and one WHAC Offensive Player of the Year.
In 2019 the Warriors accomplished that only a few teams before them have ever achieved in program history as they qualified for the NAIA National Championship for the first time since 2009 and became just the fourth team (1981, 1983) to reach the NAIA postseason. Tech finished the magical year with a 17-5-1 mark and went 10-0-1 in conference play to win their first-ever conference championship. The Warriors unified the conference titles as they swept through the WHAC Tournament to win the program's second-ever conference tournament title, defeating Madonna, 1-0, in the championship match. Tech etched more history into the record books as they earned an NAIA Opening Round host bid for the 2020 national tournament and hosted Vanguard University and the University of Mobile in Fort Wayne November 22-23. The Orange and Black defeated Vanguard, 2-0, in the opening game before falling to the third-ranked Rams, 2-0, in the championship match that was delayed nearly five hours due to an early-season snow storm. The Warriors had a number of individual accolades as Noe Garcia was named the WHAC's Offensive Player of the Year and was joined on the First-Team by Pep Casas, Will Harris, Luke Jones and Angel de Jorge, with Garcia, Casas and Jones also earning spots on the NAIA All-America Team with honorable mention honors. Dunn was named the WHAC Coach of the Year and garnered the United Soccer Coaches North Region Staff of the Year honors.
During his first season with the Warriors he led the program to a 15-5-1 record and a third-place finish in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) with a 9-1-1 mark. His team defeated No. 6-seeded Concordia University and No. 2-seeded University of Northwestern Ohio to advance to the WHAC Tournament Championship for the first time since 2009. The Warriors would fall at home to fourth-seeded Lawrence Tech, 3-0, ending their season. Dunn had three players honored as First-Team All-Conference selections and two tabbed to the Second-Team while Jaxon Simerman was named the WHAC Newcomer of the Year. Additionally, he had 15 student-athletes tabbed to the WHAC All-Academic Team. Erick Turner and Edwin Rosado each garnered two WHAC Player of the Week accolades while Turner was named the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week on October 9. Five student-athletes garnered NAIA Scholar-Athlete accolades under Dunn.
