GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior goalkeeper
Bre Wojnarowski recorded a career-high 13 saves and the defense played well, but it wasn't quite enough as the Indiana Tech women's soccer team fell to No. 14 Davenport, 2-1 in double overtime at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex on Saturday.
The Warriors (6-7, 0-5 WHAC) struck first in the contest as
Tori Singstock put Tech's first shot of the day in the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Singtsock ran onto a pass from
Morgan Kroezen near the end line, cutting the ball across the front of the net just inside the far post for her 10th marker of the season. Despite falling behind, the Panthers (9-3-1, 3-2 WHAC) tallied 16 shots in the first half, limiting Tech to five, however, DU put just six shots on goal to two for the Warriors.
The Tech defense held strong for 71 minutes, but in the 72nd minute the home team finally broke through as a cross into the box was corralled by the Panthers and knocked past Wojnarowski for the equalizer. The teams combined for five shots in the final 18 minutes of play with Tech taking one of those.
In the first overtime, the Panthers took four shots with Tech taking two chances, though DU had the only shots on frame in the first 10 minute period. In the second 10,
Nicole Price got the first shot, but the ball sailed high and in the 103rd minute, the home team knocked home a loose rebound for the game winner.
For the game the Warriors tallied 12 shots, putting three on frame while the Panthers attempted 32 putting 15 on goal. Singstock led the Tech attack with five shots, putting two on frame and tallying the lone marker.
