DETROIT, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team couldn't overcome an early deficit in a 5-2 loss to Marygrove at Mustangs field on Wednesday.
The Mustangs (5-8, 4-1 WHAC) dominated in the early going, scoring in the second and seventh minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. A red card for fighting was handed out to the home team in the 15th minute and the Warriors (5-5-1, 2-3 WHAC) took advantage, pulling to within one in the 22nd minute as
Stuart Mitchell knocked in a pass from
Andrew Higgins to cut the lead to 2-1.
The home team struck again in the opening minutes of the second half to go up 3-1, but Higgins and Mitchell connected again to cut the deficit to one. In the 68th minute, Higgins got his boot on a pass from Mitchell and beat the keep in the upper 90, just inside the crossbar. Unfortunately the Warriors yielded two more tallies in the final 22 minutes of the contest to fall 5-2.
Marygrove outshot Tech 20-6 in the game, putting 10 shots on target to just three for the Warriors.
Adam Viviano made five saves for the Warriors in 90 minutes of play with
Adam Knight leading the team with three shots and one on frame.
The Warriors return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 18 when they host Rochester College for senior day with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
