FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team stepped out of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play for a rivalry game against the University of St. Francis, playing their crosstown rivals to a 1-1 tie in double overtime at Bishop John D'Arcy Stadium on Monday night.
The Warriors (6-7-2) dominated the contest from the start, including striking first, in the same way they did on Saturday, a
Padraic Ormsby free kick. The senior midfielder, from Wicklow, Ireland, took a free kick from 25 yards out, placing the ball in the upper left corner for the 1-0 lead. It was one of eight first half shots and one-of-two Tech put on frame. The home team tallied five shots in the opening 45 minutes, putting three on goal.
The Warriors controlled the game for much of the second half as well; outshooting the Warriors 16-4 in the second 45, placing seven on frame, put none found the net. Then in the 66th minute, the home team converted on their only shot on goal in the period, tying the score.
Tech took eight shots in the two overtime periods, placing four on frame while the Cougars attempted just two shots, putting one on target. The Warriors outshot the Cougars 32-11 in the contest, including a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper,
Logan Kelly, made four saves for Tech while USF's goalie stopped 12 shots.
Stuart Mitchell and Ormsby led the team with five shots each, both putting three on target.
The Warriors return to the pitch for their home finale when they host WHAC foes, Siena Heights on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
