@INTechMSoccer Earns First Shutout of 2014, Down Blue Devils, 1-0

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Led by a freshman goal keeper and a sophomore midfielder, the Indiana Tech men's soccer team shutout Lawrence Tech, 1-0 at Warrior Athletic Field on Saturday night. Tech improved to 5-2-1 on the season and 2-1 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play while LTU falls to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in conference action.

The Blue Devils came out aggressive on a cold, blustery night, tallying eight shots to the Warriors four in the opening 30 minutes; however, each team put just one of those shots on frame. After the two teams traded a few more shots and some yellow cards, Adam Knight scored his fifth goal of the season, netting the game-winner in the 43rd minute. The sophomore fired a shot from 25 yards out, hooking the ball just inside the far post in the upper 90 for the 1-0 lead.

The Orange and Black dominated play in the second half, including outshooting the visitors 7-3 in the frame. Padraic Ormsby nearly made it 2-0 in the 78th minute as he took a free kick from the right side, bending the ball back toward the net and hitting the crossbar. The defense was stout though as freshman keeper, Adam Viviano, faced just two shots on frame in the period.

The Warriors outshot LTU 15-12 in the contest with both teams totaling four shots on frame. Tech took four corner kicks, all in the second half, to three for the Blue Devils. Viviano earns his first collegiate win and shutout with the 1-0 victory, stopping all four shots on goal.

Tech returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 8 when they host Michigan-Dearborn at 7 p.m.
