FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A career-high 19 points from junior transfer,
Chester McFadden, helped propel the Indiana Tech men's basketball team to their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win of the season, defeating Lawrence Tech 69-59 at the Schaefer Center on Saturday night.
A
Josh Fleming jumper put the Warriors (2-3, 1-0 WHAC) on the board first and after a pair of baskets gave the Blue Devils (1-5, 0-1 WHAC) a three-point advantage, a pair of jumpers and a free throw put Tech back in front by two. The two teams traded the lead over the opening eight minutes until a
Tanner Watkins three at the 6:31 mark put the Warriors up for good. An 11-3 run put Tech up by eight late in the first, but LTU closed the half on a 6-3 run to cut the Warriors lead to three, 32-29, at the half.
As a team the Warriors couldn't miss in the first half, sinking 12-of-23 (52.2%) shots, going 4-for-6 (66.7%) from the three-point arc and 4-for-5 (80%) from the charity stripe. The defense held LTU to 45.5 percent (10-for-22) shooting, despite a 6-for-11 (54.55) mark from long range and a 75 percent (3-for-4) mark at the free throw line.
A
Lavonte Davis jumper and
Franklin Lindsey three-pointer helped Tech build and early seven-point lead in the second half. The Blue Devils cut the lead to two, but McFadden swung the momentum to the Warriors bench with three of his 15 second half points to put Tech up five and sparked a 21-6 run to push the lead to a game-high 15 points, 60-45 with 8:10 to play. LTU cut the lead to single-digits, 62-53, with five minutes to play but a pair of jumpers by
Tyrece Edwards and McFadden pushed it back to 13 points, helping seal the 10-point victory.
Tech finished the contest 26-for-47 (55.35) from the field, 9-for-15 (60%) from behind the arc and 8-for-10 (805) from the charity stripe while limiting the Blue Devils to 44.4 percent (20-for-45) from the floor.
McFadden paced the Warriors with 19 points, finishing 6-of-7 from the field, going 2-for-3 from long range and 5-for-6 from the line. Lindsey added 13 points while Davis finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.
