FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Franklin Lindsey recorded his first career double-double for the Indiana Tech men's basketball team, but it wasn't enough in a 77-64 loss to Siena Heights in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup at the Schaefer Center on Wednesday night.
The Saints (4-3, 2-0 WHAC) scored the games' first points on a pair of free throws, but Lindsey sank a pair of his own to tie the score, the first points in a 13-0 run by the Warriors (2-4, 1-1 WHAC) to take an 11-point lead in the game's opening seven minutes. The visitors answered with a 19-9 run of the own to cut the lead to just one, 22-21, before the Warriors scored six of the final 10 points to take a 28-25 halftime lead.
The Orange and Black continued their offensive success in the opening minutes of the second half, opening on a 13-5 run to take an 11-point lead. Unfortunately the Warriors offense went cold, as the Saints used a 14-0 run to take a three-point, 44-41 lead with 12:25 to play. A pair of
Lavonte Davis free throws ended the run, cutting the deficit to one. After trading several baskets,
Chester McFadden converted a jumper with 4:24 to play to cut the deficit to six, 61-55, but SHU outscored the Warriors 16-9 the rest of the way for the win.
Tech finished the contest 21-for-58 (36.2%) from the floor and 5-for-16 (31.3%) from the three-point arc while sinking 17-of-22 (77.3%) free throws in the loss. Although the Saints shot slightly better for the contest, the difference was at the charity stripe where the Saints were 28-for-34 (82.4%).
The Warriors tallied 16 second chance points and had 29 bench points while also tallying 40 rebounds to just 29 for the Saints.
McFadden finished with a team-high 24 points while Lindsey finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman point guard,
Josh Fleming, added 12 points for the Orange and Black.
