GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A slow start wasted a career night for freshman
Alexjandra Marquez-Lopez as the Indiana Tech women's basketball team fell to No. 4 Davenport, 62-88, in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic contest at the DU Student Center on Tuesday night.
Playing their last game before a trip to California for Thanksgiving, the Warriors (3-6, 3-4 WHAC) struggled from the start as the Panthers (6-0, 4-0 WHAC) opened up the game on an 11-0 run with
Baylee Rinehart scoring the first points for Tech, a three-pointer, cutting the deficit to eight. Tech dropped the deficit to single-digits just once more in the half; with Davenport taking a 54-20 lead into the break.
The home team pushed the lead to 40 in the second half, but the Orange and Black closed the contest on a 21-7 run to cut the deficit to 26, running out of time in an 88-62 loss. Tech finished the contest 19-for-54 (35.2%) from the field, 5-for-14 (35.7%) from behind the arc and 19-for-21 (90.5%) from the charity stripe while also outrebounding the Panthers 40-35.
Marquez-Lopez scored a game-high 17 points, a career-high, falling just two rebounds short of her second double-double in as many contests.
Shallante Clements and Rinehart each tallied 13 points with the former leading the team with nine rebounds.
The Warriors head to the west coast to take part in the William Jessup Tournament for a pair of contests on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28-29. Tech opens against the hosts at 9 p.m. before taking on San Diego Christian at 5 p.m. in Rocklin, Calif.
