ROCKLIN, Calif. – Junior point guard and California native,
Rayana Villalpando, fell just three assists shy of a double-double in helping the Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeat William Jessup in Warrior Arena as part of the William Jessup Classic on Friday night.

Baylee Rinehart put the Tech (4-6) on the board first with a free throw while Villalpando converted her first two from the charity strip as well, part of a 5-0 run to open the contest for the Orange and Black. William Jessup (0-6) cut the lead to three and after trading several baskets, used a 4-0 run to cut the lead to two, 18-16. Tech scored five unanswered, with a three-pointer by Torrance, Calif. native,
Alexjandra Marquez-Lopez to push the lead back to seven. Villalpando found
Nikki Grose inside just before the buzzer to give the Warriors a 13-point, 36-23, lead at the break.
It was all Tech in the second half as the Warriors continued to add to their lead, reaching a high-water mark of 23 with 4:46 left in the contest. The Orange and Black finished the contest 25-for-65 from the field, 7-for-25 (28%) from behind the arc and 14-for-18 (77.8%) from the charity stripe while the defense held the hosts to 39 percent shooting, including an 0-for-8 mark from long range.
The Warriors scored 30 points in the paint while turning 18 WJU miscues into 16 points while also recording 35 rebounds.
Grose led all scorers with 16 while also collecting a game-high nine rebounds. Rinehart finished with 13 points while Villalpando tallied 12 points, five rebounds and seven assists in the contest.
Tech returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 29 as they close out the classic with a 5 p.m. tip against San Diego Christian College in Warrior Arena.
