@INTechMBB Suffers Heartbreaking 60-58 Loss

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 60-58 loss to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Aquinas at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center on Saturday evening.

The Warriors (5-7, 3-4 WHAC) got off to a good start, opening an early seven point lead with a 9-2 run with four from Chester McFadden. Tech was able to answer each basket by the Saints (7-7, 4-3 WHAC) but a 4-0 run gave Aquinas their first lead of the night, 14-13 with 8:39 left in the half. Franklin Lindsey responded quickly with a three-pointer at the other end to regain the lead. The Saints tied the score next time down the floor and Josh Fleming drained a jumper to regain the lead and spark the offense to a 12-5 run to push the Tech advantage to nine with 2:04 left before the break. A free throw right before time expired gave Tech a 32-24 lead at the half.

It was a tale of two halves as the Saints jumped the Warriors to begin the second half, outscoring Tech 22-5 in the first seven minutes to take a nine point lead. A Tanner Watkins jumper ended the run and spurred the Warriors to score 11 of the next 13 points to tie the score at 48 with 8:40 to play. The teams traded baskets with the Warriors taking their first second half lead on a McFadden three-pointer making it 58-55. The Saints sunk a three-pointer with 2:02 left to tie the game at 58 and scored the game-winner with one second left.

Offensively the Warriors were solid, shooting 40.7 percent (22-for-54) from the floor, 38.1 percent (8-for-21) from long range and converted 6-of-8 (75%) free throws while grabbing 40 rebounds. Defensively, Tech limited the Saints to just 36.1 percent (22-for-61) shooting but Aquinas was 10-for-18 (55.6%) at the charity stripe, the difference in the contest.

Lavonte Davis grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with 12 points for his second double-double of the season with Lindsey chipping in 12 points and six boards.

The Warriors return home for a pair of contests beginning with a WHAC matchup against Concordia on Wednesday, Dec. 17 with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
