HUNTINGTON, Ind. – It took 96 minutes, but the Indiana Tech women's soccer team improved to 4-2 in 2014 with a 3-2 overtime victory at Huntington University on Wednesday.
Tori Singstock scored two markers in regulation, but
Nicole Price scored the golden goal on an assist from
Megan Perrey, her second of the contest.
Singstock and the Warriors wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in the sixth minute as Perrey found the junior forward for the early goal. It was the lone tally in the first half.
In the second half, the Foresters' (1-6) Becca Grimes found Courtney Baker in the box with the latter netting the equalizer at the 67:37 mark. Four minutes later, in the 71st minute,
Jamie Hawkey found a streaking Singstock for the Warriors second goal and a 2-1 advantage.
It took just seven minutes for the home team to answer as Grimes scored on a pass from Kaitlyn Dreman to knot the score at 2. It was all Tech in the overtime period and Price was able to find the back of the net for the game-winner.
The Warriors outshot the Foresters, 27-16, in the contest, putting 15 of those on target compared to 11 for Huntington. The home team attempted 11 corner kicks to just seven for Tech.
Senior goalkeeper
Bre Wojnarowski made seven saves in 92:27 for the warriors while Paige Coolman made 12 saves in the contest for HU.
The Warriors will look to kickoff homecoming with a bang when they host NAIA Preseason No. 20 Ashford (Iowa) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20.
