@INTechWSoccer Registers 2-0 Win over No. 20 Ashford

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – With one goal in each half, the Indiana Tech women's soccer team defeated NAIA Preseason No. 20, Ashford, 2-0 at the Warrior Athletic Field to kick off the homecoming festivities on Saturday.

It was a pretty even first half, with the Saints (4-5) attempting seven shots to the Warriors (5-2) six, but Tech was the only team to find the back of the net. In the 20th minute, following a Tori Singstock corner kick off the cross bar, Nicole Price was able to keep the ball in the air for Courtney Lakes who registered her first marker of the season, heading the ball home for the 1-0 lead.

A couple diving stops by the Warriors senior goalkeeper, Bre Wojnarowski kept the home team on top.

It was a tenuous second half that saw two cards and several missed chances on both ends. No one could capitalize on their opportunities until the 78th minute. Jessica Zurcher played a ball into the box that Morgan Kroezen made a run on before getting tripped and award a penalty kick. The sophomore from Commerce, Michigan slipped the ball just inside the left post, beating the keeper for the 2-0 lead.

A couple more saves from Wojnarowski helped preserve the Warriors second shutout of the season.

For the game, Tech outshot Ashford, 19-11, including a 13-4 advantage in the second half. The Warriors also put seven shots on target with the Saints tallying six.
Wojnarowski tallied six saves in 90 minutes of play while Tori Singstock led the team with nine shots, putting two on frame.

The Warriors hit the road for their next contest on Tuesday, Sept. 23 when they travel to Goshen, Ind. to face the Maple Leafs with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
