Mitchell's Golden Goal Lifts @INTechMSoccer past @GCLancers, 2-1 (OT)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – It took two days and three minutes of overtime, but the Indiana Tech men's soccer team finally defeated Grace, 2-1, at Warrior Athletic Field on Monday night.

Stuart Mitchell put an end to what was a spectacular contest, which was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday.  Padraic Ormsby got the play started with a touch pass to Gaston Raposo in the Warriors (3-1-1) offensive third where Raposo quickly found the feet of Mitchell who was able to beat the keeper to the lower left 90, just inside the post for the golden goal.

When asked how the play developed, Mitchell responded, "It's still a blur to be honest. [Padraic Ormsby] did a great job finding Gaston and I was able to get a good touch on it. I was taking shots before the game and it paid off."

Grace got the scoring started as Danilo Camelos intercepted a Tech clearing attempt and fired a shot from 20 yards out, bending the ball inside the upper left corner for the 1-0 lead.  Warriors' keeper Mac Baker had just made a stellar diving save, but couldn't quite get back into position to stop the goal.

Just 10 minutes later, in the 38th minute, Zachary St. Aubin netted his second goal of the season for the equalizer. Andrew Higgins got the play started with a service into the 18-yard box, finding Robbie Kiernan who gave a quick touch to St. Aubin near the left post. The junior was able to beat the keeper far post for the marker.

It was an evenly contested match with the Warriors collecting 14 shots to 13 for the Lancers (5-2) with both teams tallying five shots on frame.  Baker made four saves in the contest while Grace stopped three.

It was a tenuous second half that featured a couple cards and some physical play. The Lancers had several scoring opportunities, including four consecutive corner kicks in 35 seconds, but Baker and the Warriors defense shut the door.

It took just three minutes for the Warriors to attempt the only shot of the extra period, with Mitchell sending the Warriors' fans home happy.

The Warriors return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 27 when they begin Wolverine-Hoosier Conference play against Madonna with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
