Box Score ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Indiana Tech American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 1 Ice Hockey team recorded its first win in program history over host Oakland University 6-4 Saturday night.
Alex Gregorich broke a tie game in the final 72 seconds for the win.
In a total team effort, six different warriors scored to seal the win with
Vaughn Clouston leading the way with a three-point night. Clouston scored the team's third goal while adding two helpers, the latter of the two on the game-winning goal. Not far from Clouston in the accolades was
Jarrett Pfeiffer, who scored the fourth Tech goal and also assisted on the game winner.
Sometimes history can repeat itself with different results. Just yesterday, the Orange and Black had its best period of the season when Tech rattled off three second-period goals in under seven minutes. On Saturday, the Warriors needed just 4:35 to again score the middle stanza's first three goals.
This time the Orange and Black's second period blitzkrieg prompted the Oakland coaching staff to make a goaltender change right after Tech's third second-period marker, which gave the Warriors a commanding 4-1 lead.
At the other end in net for Tech was
John Slavik, who faced 40 Oakland shots and was just as important to the win defensively as the offensive production.
Steve Klisz got the Warriors on the board and tied the contest at 1-1 late in the first period. Klisz's goal fueled the impetus into the second period and ultimately became the first of four unanswered Tech goals.
Jake Henrikson started the second period scoring just 2:40 into the period and
Cameron Dimmitt would end the scoring with an insurance empty-net goal with just a tick remaining.
The Division 1 team hopes to carry the momentum of Saturday's game into its next matchup against Dordt College Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Sioux Center, Iowa.
