Box Score MARION, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team won its second straight game at the IWU Classic, defeating Georgetown (Ky.) 1-0 at Indiana Wesleyan Soccer Field on Saturday.
The Warriors (2-2) got an early goal from
Tori Singstock to defeat the Tigers (0-3), thanks to solid defense and goal keeper play.
After a missed corner kick opportunity by Georgetown, the Warriors capitalized in transition as
Morgan York sent a ball into the offensive third that Singstock was able to run onto, beating the keeper in a one-v-one situation for a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the contest. It was Singstock's first tally of the season.
Tech tallied seven more shots in the half, putting three of those on frame, but couldn't find the net. The Tigers tallied six first half shots, just one on goal, while both teams took four corner kicks.
Georgetown had several opportunities in the second half, outshooting Tech 9-7 in the period, but only two of those where on goal and the Warriors goal keeper,
Alena Payne, made the saves to preserve the win.
"After last night's emotional match, today wasn't pretty but we played well enough to win," said Tech Head Coach
Jim Lipocky.
Both teams tallied 15 shots in the contest with the Tigers holding an 8-5 margin in corner kicks.
The Warriors return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 13 for their 2014 home-opener against Cleary with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
