FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Five players netted double-digit points and
Franklin Lindsey finished with his second straight double-double as the Indiana Tech men's basketball team routed Marygrove, 103-81, on Dan Kline Court in the Schaefer Center on Wednesday night.
The outcome of the game was never in doubt as the Warriors (9-13, 6-7 WHAC) won the opening tip and
Jared Bloom promptly hit a three-pointer to start a 7-0 run. After the two teams traded several baskets and the Mustangs (3-18, 1-12 WHAC) cut the lead to three, 16-13,
Chester McFadden converted a three-point play and the Orange and Black scored the next nine points to push the margin to 12. Marygrove answered with a couple three's to cut the lead to nine, but Tech responded with an 18-4 run to push the lead to a first-half high of 23, 46-23. The visitors scored eight of the final 12 points in the half to cut the halftime lead to 20, 51-31.
Bloom continued to knock down shots from behind the arc in the second half, opening the period with a long range shot to extend the lead to 23. Five straight points by Marygrove cut it to 18, but that's the closest the visitors got, as Tech used a 17-6 run over the next several minutes to push the lead to a game-high 29 points, 71-42, with 13:11 on the clock. The Mustangs were able to cut the lead to 20 twice, but both times the Warriors scored nine unanswered points to maintain the 29-point lead. Marygrove scored the final seven points for the 103-81 margin.
Tech finished the contest 38-for-73 (52.15) from the floor, 12-for-32 (37.5%) from long range and 15-for-21 (71.4%) at the charity stripe while the defense limited Marygrove to 41.2 percent (28-for-68) shooting. The Warriors held a 47-38 margin in rebounds while also outscoring the Mustangs 46-28 in the paint.
Bloom netted a team-high 18 points while Lindsey scored 13 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Three other Warriors,
Josh Fleming (16),
Arben Camaj (12) and
Chester McFadden (10) netted double-figure points with the latter finishing with a team-high seven assists.
The Warriors return to action on Saturday, Jan. 24 in Sylvania, Ohio for a 3 p.m. tip against Lourdes.
