BOX SCORE | PHOTOS | FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Jace Childs recorded a game-high three points and the Indiana Tech ACHA Division I ice hockey team scored four goals, but suffered their first loss to Western Michigan this season, 5-4, at the SportONE/Parkview IceHouse on Sunday.
Much like the first game of the weekend, it took a while to get going with the Warriors (7-22) getting on the board first with 6:49 left in the opening period, as
Quentin Holmes was able to knock in a rebound from
Alex Gregorich. Less than three minutes later, the Stallions (13-15) netted the equalizer to knot the score at 1 after one.
The second period saw a flurry of action with each team netting three tallies. WMU bookended the period with goals, the last coming with 29 seconds remaining in the period to tie the score at 4. Childs netted a pair of goals getting help from Gregorich and Holmes on the first while
Anthony Passarelli and Steven Klisz chipped in on the second. The latter trio combined for another tally just three minutes later as Childs and Passarelli got Klisz the puck for the goal.
It was a slow moving third period and it seemed the first time to score would win the contest and that's exactly what happened, unfortunately for Tech it was WMU that got the tally with 2:45 left in the contest. The Warriors managed several opportunities in the closing minutes but couldn't find the net in the one-goal loss.
The Warriors put 34 shots on goal in the contest compared to just 26 for the Stallions, but WMU stopped 30 shots compared to the 21 for Tech.
Childs tallied three points on two goals and an assist while four other players, Homes (one goal, one assist), Klisz (one goal, one assist), Passarelli (two assists) and Gregorich (two assists) amassed two points each.
The Warriors return to the ice on Friday, Jan 30 in Mount Pleasant, Mich. when they face Central Michigan at Mt. Pleasant Ice at 8 p.m.
