GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team hit the road for the first of a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests this week, falling to Cornerstone 73-57 at Mol Arena on Wednesday night.
The Warriors (7-11, 6-4 WHAC) got on the board first off a
Taylor Carver jumper, but the Golden Eagles (11-6, 6-3 WHAC) scored nine of the next 10 points to take a 9-3 lead. Tech responded with a 7-3 run, with three-pointers from
Taylor Seiss and
Jessica Silva helping cut the deficit to two. It was another run by the home team, 9-1, that increased the deficit to 10, 21-11, but the Orange and Black finished the half strong, outscoring Cornerstone 12-6 to cut the deficit to four, 27-23 at the break.
The momentum didn't carry over to the second half for Tech as the Golden Eagles scored the first seven points to push their lead to 11, eventually leading by as many as 13 in the half. With 14:06 left to play, Seiss hit a shot from behind the arc to spark a 13-6 run by the Warriors to cut the deficit to six, 50-44 with 10 minutes to play. The home team answered with another run to close out the game, outscoring the Warriors 23-13 in the loss.
It was the worst shooting performance of the season for the Warriors who finished 16-for-55 (29.1%) from the field including a 3-for-20 (15%) mark from behind the arc while excelling at the free throw line, sinking 22-of-30 (73.3%) in the game. At the other end of the floor, Cornerstone shot 42.4 percent (25-for-59) from the field and 21-for-37 (56.8%) from the charity stripe.
Seiss finished with a team-high 15 points with Carver adding 10 and a team-high seven rebounds.
Shallante Clements added six boards with
Rayana Villalpando tallying seven points.
Tech will look to bounce back on Saturday, Jan. 10 in Lima, Ohio as they face UNOH at 1 p.m.
