PHOTOS | RESULTS | FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech wrestling team finished the first day of the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals Championships 2-1 with a 25-22 win over Bethany (Kan.) at the Allen Country War Memorial Coliseum.
The sixth-ranked Warriors got off to a fast start as senior
Kristopher McKinley opened the dual with a 7-1 decision at 125-pounds and ninth-ranked
Brett Yarbrough recorded a fall at 133-pounds to take a 9-0 lead. The Swedes didn't back down from Tech, taking the next three matches, including a major decision at 141 to take a 10-9 lead.
The Orange and Black took back control when No. 8
Jacob Johnson recorded a first period fall at 165 and
Antonio Rodriguez followed suit at 174. Sixth-seeded
Darryl Grayson earned a major decision, 13-3, to take a 25-10 lead to seal the win. It was soured though with a pair of losses via fall at 197 and 285 pounds to round out the scoring, 25-22.
The Warriors will compete in the consolation semifinals at 9 a.m. against Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on mat six in Expo Center III followed by a match at 1 p.m. for either fifth of seventh place on mat 10 or 8, respectively.
