Warriors Dispatch Mustangs in Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team increased its winning streak to five on Wednesday evening at the Schaefer Center as they dispatched Marygrove College in three sets (25-16, 25-19, 25-20) to sweep the season series.

Tech came out swinging in the first set, hitting .452 and converting 17 kills while only recording three errors. Gabby Staggs and Keasia Carlisle both hit over .600 for the match as they finished with nine and seven kills, respectively.

The Warriors used a six-run rally in the second set to pull away from the Mustangs and make it 11-3. While the visitors would make it interesting and make it 18-14 at one point, the hosts never wavered and would score six of the next nine points to give the Orange and Black a two-set to none lead.

In the third set with the score 20-19 Tech, the Warriors would shut the door by converting five of the next six points to earn the season sweep over the Mustangs.

Cassie Sarabia led the team in kills with 14 and also added nine digs, two aces and two blocks. Taylor Kelso had a game-high 23 digs while Katelyn St. Martin added 15 digs and two blocks. Mara Zell dished out 21 assists while Karli Jones recorded 16.

Before the game, Tech honored Kelso and St. Martin with a pair of game balls for passing 1,500 and 1,000 career digs, respectively. The junior libero now has 1,713 digs while the senior outside hitter has 1,078.

Tech (16-10, 11-6) takes a break from Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action this weekend as they host the annual Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament. The Orange and Black will take on Indiana University East and Ave Maria University on Friday afternoon before taking on Indiana University Southeast and University of the Cumberlands on Saturday.
