FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball opened the 2015 Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Schaefer Center. Tech split a pair of matches, losing to IU East in three sets (25-17, 25-15, 31-29) before coming back in the "Liz" game against Ave Maria to win in three sets (25-15 25-12, 25-12).
The Warriors came out firing in the evening session against the Gyrenes, hitting .366 for the match, including a .440 mark in the third set. A balanced offense attack was a key to the sweep, as five Warriors had six kills or more, led by
Cassie Sarabia's 10, while
Jazmin Alexander added seven.
Katelyn St. Martin,
Paige Doellman and
Gabby Staggs each added six apiece.
Karli Jones and
Autumn Stokes each dished out double-digit assists with 17 and 12, respectively.
Taylor Kelso had a game-high 10 digs, while St. Martin added eight. Staggs and Keasisa Carlisle each had two solo blocks, while Carlisle led the way with seven block assists.
In the afternoon matchup with the Red Wolves, the Orange and Black were unable to mount any rallies in the first two sets, only scoring three points or more in a row just twice. In the third set, the Warriors were at set point and leading by one, IU East was able to tie it and eventually take the match.
Kelso had a game-high 16 digs, while St. Martin added nine to go along with six kills. Sarabia added nine kills to lead the team and
Karli Jones had 15 assists.
Tech (17-12) has a quick turnaround as close out the tournament tomorrow with a 10 a.m. match with IU Southeast before facing off with University of the Cumberlands at 2:30 p.m. Links to live stats and video will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
