FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team defeated Concordia University, 8-0, on Wednesday evening at Warrior Athletic Field to pick up their first win in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action.
The Warriors got off to a quick start by scoring two goals in the opening 18 minutes.
Ruben Leonardo scored both the goals, the first coming in the 12 minutes when a shot from
Landon Cochran deflected off the Cardinals goalie and fell to the freshman's feet and he put it away. Just six minutes later, Leonardo would notch his second of the game after a great feed inside the box from
Zachary St. Aubin.
Tech would get its third goal via an own goal from Concordia and St. Aubin made it 4-0 in the 36th minute off a penalty kick after a Cardinals handball in the box.
Nyi Nyi Aung and
Igor Guanaes would each notch their second goals of the season in the second half, while
Braden Walker and
Nathan Waits would add their first scores of the year as well.
Logan Kelly made one save on the night, a big one to keep Concordia off the board in the first half, to pick up the win and improve his record to 4-8-1 as he combined with
Adam Viviano on the shutout.
The Orange and Black recorded season-highs in shots (31), shots on goal (20) and goals (eight) as they controlled the game from start to finish. The eight goals is the most for Tech in a game since Oct. 5, 2013, when they scored nine against Cleary University.
Indiana Tech (4-9-1, 1-6-1) continues WHAC action on Saturday when they host Aquinas College at 7 p.m. Links to live stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
