Warriors Earn Sweep on Final Day of Liz Lykowski Tournament

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team went 2-0 on Saturday at the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament, held at the Schaefer Center. Tech defeated IU Southeast and University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) in three sets to go 3-1 for the tournament and earning runner-up honors.

The Warriors defeated the Grenadiers, 25-21, 25-15, 25-14 in the morning session, outhitting them .303 to .095 for the match. Cassie Sarabia and Katelyn St. Martin led the Orange and Black with 11 kills apiece, while Gabby Stags added nine. Taylor Kelso notched a game-high 17 digs, while St. Martin added nine. Autumn Stokes led the team in assists (20) and aces (two) and also added six digs.

Tech jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first set and two four-point rallies later in the set to cruise to the victory. The Warriors then used a 7-0 spurt in the second set to take a 12-6 lead before closing out the set with a 5-0 run.

The Warriors then cooled down a hot University of the Cumberlands squad in the final match of the afternoon, winning 25-19, 25-21, 25-22. The Patriots, who had gone 3-0 in the tournament up to that point, were limited to a .110 hitting percentage.

St. Martin picked up her eighth double-double of the year as she led the Orange and Black in kills (16) and digs (16). Paige Doellman added 13 kills, while Kelso notched 13 digs. Stokes and Karli Jones combined for 35 of the teams 42 assists.

After taking the first two sets, Tech would use a 7-0 run to give the hosts an 11-5 lead and wouldn't let the visitors get to within a point the rest of the set.

IU East took home the tournament title after going 3-1 on the weekend, earning the tiebreaker edge via their victory over Tech on Friday. Sarabia was named to the All-Tournament team after finishing with 30 kills, nine digs, three assists and three total blocks in three games.

Senior Emily Williams was named the recipient of the 2015 Liz Lykowski Memorial Scholarship.
