Warriors Fall to Crusaders

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team fell to Madonna University on Wednesday evening, 3-1, at Warrior Athletic Field.

The Crusaders were able to strike first when Jennifer Jurcak's shot deflected off of Kelly Capoccia and bounced back to Jurcak, who was able to fire it past Tech keeper Alena Payne and take the lead in the 33rd minute.

The Warriors were able to tie it up in the 58th minute when Abby Glaysher took Nicole Price's pass and beat Blaire Schmalenberg for her first goal of the season.

The tie was short lived however, as Jurcak notched her second goal of the game just two minutes later when she dripped past the Warrior defense and curled her shot into the upper left corner past Payne for the 2-1 lead.

Capoccia would add an insurance goal in the 77th minute when she stole the ball off a failed clear and beat Payne for her 14th goal of the year, the fifth most in the nation.

The Warriors finished with 11 shots on goal and 20 overall. Jessica Zurcher, Becca Hoklas, Jessica Marin and Glaysher each had two shots on goal apiece, while Marin led the team with four shots in all.

Payne made eight saves on the night as her record fell to 3-6-1.

Tech (5-6-1, 1-2-1) travels to Sylvania, Ohio, on Saturday to take on Lourdes University in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and links to live stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
