Warriors Avenge Earlier Losses, Sweep Saints in WHAC Quarterfinals

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The fifth seeded Indiana Tech volleyball team avenged two sweeps from earlier in the season as they defeated fourth seeded Siena Heights in three sets on Friday evening in the quarterfinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament at Tam-O-Shanter on the campus of Lourdes University.

Paige Doellman had a game-high 11 kills and hit .500 for the match, while Keasia Carlisle lead all players with a .875 hitting percentage for seven kills. Katelyn St. Martin and All-Freshman Team member Gabby Staggs each added nine kills apiece with St. Martin adding eight digs and Staggs had four total blocks. First-Team All-Conference selection Taylor Kelso recorded 18 digs and dished out seven assists, while Autumn Stokes had a game-high 24 assists.

Tech got off to a hot start as they hit .400 in the first set with 14 kills and only four errors while limiting the Saints to a .031 attack percentage. The Warriors used a 7-0 run to take a commanding 19-8 lead, with Taylor Kelso serving up six of those points, including an ace.

The Orange and Black would jump out to a 7-1 run in the second set over the Saints to set the tone, with Jazmin Alexander and First-Team All-Conference honoree Cassie Sarabia each recording two kills. Siena Heights would battle back to cut the lead to 17-15, but a 5-0 spurt from the Warriors, including three kills from Doellman, would give Tech the 2-0 set lead.

Siena Heights came out swinging in the third set as they fought to keep their season alive and got out to an early 6-2 lead. Tech would use a 9-0 run to come roaring back though. Both teams would trade leads through the rest of the set, with the Saints looking like they would get back into the match with a 21-20 lead, but a kill from Doellman, an error on Siena Heights and a Karli Jones ace would give the Orange and Black a 23-21 advantage. St. Martin would make sure her senior season would continue with a kill to get it to match point and end it in style with an ace.

Tech (22-15) will face off with No. 18 Lourdes in the semifinals on Saturday. First serve is set for 12:30 p.m. and links to live stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
