KENT, Ohio – The Indiana Tech American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 1 ice hockey team defeated Kent State, 2-1, in a shootout (2-0) on Saturday afternoon to complete the weekend sweep in Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) action.
Much like the night before, both sides failed to score a goal until the third period when the Golden Flashes got on the scoreboard first at 10:24.
Zack Morlock would tie the game just five minutes and 23 second later on a power play though, but neither side could break through some stellar goaltending in the last five minutes of regulation and the overtime period.
Jace Childs would clinch the game for the Warriors in the shootout, which last four rounds.
Chet Tooker made 34 saves on 35 shots in net for Tech to pick up his third win of the season.
Quentin Holmes and
Jarrett Pfeiffer would each tally an assist on the Morlock goal.
The Orange and Black were exceptional on the penalty kill as they did not allow the Golden Flashes to convert on any of its five power plays.
Tech (9-5-1-0) returns to the ice next Friday when they open a home and home set with sixth ranked Adrian. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. from Arrington Ice Arena.
