Tech Rolls Over Mustangs for First WHAC Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team picked up its first win in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play and evened its record at .500 as they defeated Marygrove, 99-37, on Wednesday evening at the Schaefer Center.

Haley Cook led all scorers with a career-high 22 points on 8-9 shooting from the field and 3-4 from the three point line, and also pulled down nine rebounds and dished out three assists. Taylor Carver went 8-10 from the field en route to 16 points in 17 minutes and grabbed five boards. Taylor Seiss would round out the double-figure scorers for the Warriors with 14 points, going 4-7 from behind the arc.

Tech came out of the gates with an 11-0 run in the first three and a half minutes of the game to put the Mustangs on the defensive right away and never letting them get comfortable. The Orange and Black would then go on a 17-3 run after Marygrove got their first points of the game at the 6:11 mark in the first period.

It would be déjà-vu in the second quarter as the Warriors would go on another 11-0 run and continue to dominate the visitors on the scoreboard and the glass, out-rebounding the Mustangs 60-21.

Tech's defense would hold Marygrove to just 21.9 percent shooting overall and 14.3 percent from behind the arc, while the Warriors would shoot over 57 percent from the field.

The Orange and Black would push their lead to as many as 62 in the second half. 11 of the 12 Tech players that saw the floor scored at least a point while 10 of them grabbed at least one rebound.

Tech (3-3, 1-1 WHAC) continues its homestand on Saturday when they host Michigan-Dearborn at the Schafer Center. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. and links to live video and stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
