MACOMB, Mich. – The Indiana Tech American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 1 men's ice hockey team defeated No. 21 Rochester College in Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) action on Friday night, 2-1, in overtime at Suburban Ice Macomb.
In a "Battle of the Warriors", neither side was able to generate a goal until the third period, when Rochester got on the board at 15:18. Tech wouldn't get down however, battling back and eventually tying the game with just 46 seconds left in the game when
Adam Jonak blasted one into the net to send the game into a five minute overtime period.
Jace Childs would net the game-winner and his team-leading 13th goal of the season at the 1:40 mark in the extra session to give the Orange and Black the win, their first overtime win in program history and just the second time the team has had a decision not decided in regulation.
"We battled through some adversity tonight, it was a great team win.,: head coach Frank DiCristofaro said. "We'll enjoy this tonight and then turn the page and focus on tomorrow." Dominick Manochio would notch the assists on Childs goal, while
Joe Molfetta and
Zack Morlock helped on Jonak's goal. The Warriors fired off 28 shots on goal while committing five penalties.
Chet Tooker made 30 saves while allowing just the one goal to improve his record to 2-0-0.
