@INTechBaseball Shut Out in Series Finale

ATHENS, Tenn. – The Indiana Tech baseball team played their first nine inning contest of the season on Sunday, the final game against No. 23 Tennessee Wesleyan College at Jack Bowling Baseball Field, falling 4-0.

The story of the day for the Warriors (0-3) was runners left on base as Tech stranded eight runners in the contest, unable to get the big hit they need throughout the game.

It started in the first inning as Dezmon Nunn led off with a bunt base hit and a Steve Remesnik walk followed by a Brian Hakes hit by pitch loaded the bases with two outs, but Tech couldn't get a run across. In the bottom half of the inning, back-to-back one-out hits by the home team made it 1-0.

In the second inning, the Warriors again had some action on the bases as Peyton Newsom led off with a single advancing to third on a pair of groundouts, but a walk and a fielder's choice ended the inning for Tech. In the bottom of the frame, an error, hit by pitch and two walks gave the Bulldogs (6-4) a two run lead.

Tech got their leadoff man on for the third straight inning when Romer Portes led off with a single, but again the Warriors couldn't get him in. The home team added a run in the fifth innings and the Warriors looked to have something cooking in the sixth inning as Remesnik reached on an error to and Hakes walked, putting two on with no outs, however, Tech went down in order to end the threat. TWC added another tally in the sixth for the final margin.

Nunn reached base twice, finishing 1-for-3 with a walk while Portes and Newsom recorded the only other hits for the Warriors.

Chase Keathley (0-1) took the loss despite a solid outing. The junior right-hander finished with 4.1 innings pitched allowing three runs while walking two and striking out a pair. Jared Harvey recorded 2.2 innings in relief, allowing a run on one hit with a strikeout and Marc Brandenburg pitched a perfect eighth for the Warriors.

Tech returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 21 when they travel to Columbia, Ky. for a two-team double header. The Warriors will face Indiana Wesleyan at 11 a.m. before facing Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) at 2 p.m. with both games played at Egnew Park, home of the Blue Raiders.
