BOX SCORE | FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's tennis team competed in their first dual match of the season, defeating the University of Saint Francis (Ill.), 6-3 at the Wildwood Racquet Club on Sunday morning.
Things didn't start off well for the Warriors (1-0) as the Fighting Saints (1-2) won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, 8-1, 8-5, but the Tech duo of
Raquel Manzoni and
Barbara Belli de Oliveira salvaged a point with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Orange and Black took another blow, losing at No. 1 singles in three sets, 6-0, 4-6, 6-0, but fought back and came from behind with five consecutive victories for the first win of the year.
Stephanie Perez Trujillo got things going in the right direction with a hard fought victory, bouncing back from a first set loss, 5-7, to win the final two, 7-5, 6-4. A pair of straight set wins from
Ana Hernandez (6-3, 6-2) and
Anabell Cordero (6-2, 6-2) put Tech up 4-3 with two matches to play. A forfeit at No. 6 singles gave Tech the win but that didn't stop Belli de Oliveira from collecting a win at No. 5 in three sets, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 14 when they travel to Ashland, Ohio to face Ashland University. The time for the match has yet to be determined.
