DEARBORN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team had four players score in double figures, including a double-double from
Shallante Clements, but it wasn't enough to take down Michigan-Dearborn, falling 84-77 at the UMD Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
The Wolverines (8-24, 3-18 WHAC) got the scoring started but a pair of
Taylor Carver baskets quickly put the Warriors (12-17, 11-10 WHAC) up two. The teams traded baskets for the next six minutes, with neither team able to pull away until the 11 minute mark when UMD scored five straight points to go up five, 22-17. Tech scored the next three to cut the deficit to two, but an 11-2 run by the home team made it an 11 point game. After trading a few more scores, the Warriors scored eight unanswered points to tie the score, going into the half down three, 41-38.
Clements and
Taylor Seiss scored the first four points of the second half and after trading points again, the Warriors scored four straight to go ahead four, 48-44. After a UMD basket, Carver scored five straight points to give Tech their largest lead of the game up seven, 53-46. After a couple UMD scores cut the lead to three, Seiss hit a three-pointer to push the margin back to six. The Wolverines answered with seven straight to take the lead until Seiss hit a jumper to put Tech back in front. The home team scored 13 of the next 15 points to go up 10, 70-60 and hit the free throws down the stretch as the Warriors comeback ran out of time.
Tech finished the contest 26-for-67 (38.8%) from the field, 5-for-16 (31.3%) from behind the arc and 20-for-28 (71.4%) from the charity stripe. The defense limited UMD to just one three-pointer and Tech outrebounded the Wolverines 47-32.
Carver finished the game with 26 points with Seiss adding 19. Clements scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Lindsey Masnari added 10 points and seven boards.
Tech closes out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 21 in Livonia, Mich. at the MU Activities Center against Madonna. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. with live video available at
