@INTechWBB Secures Sixth Seed in WHAC Tournament

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team closed out the 2014-15 regular season at the MU Activities Center on Saturday afternoon, falling to #RV Madonna, 63-88, but secured the sixth spot in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament next week.

It was senior day for the Crusaders (18-10, 17-5 WHAC) and they came out on fire, hitting two three-pointers in their first two possessions to aid in an 8-0 run to begin the contest. The Warriors' (12-18, 11-11 WHAC) first two baskets of the contest came from senior Shallante Clements and cut the deficit to six. After trading baskets, Tech scored eight of the next 10 points, six from Taylor Carver, to make it a one score came, 19-17. The home team pushed the lead back to six, but a Sarah White jumper followed by a Brooke Gerbers three-pointer made it a one point deficit. The Crusaders hit another trey but Gerbers followed with a pair of free throws and a Carver tip-in tied the game at 26. The home team again went up five, but a free throw and layup from Clements and a Gerbers three-ball put the Warriors in front, 32-31, at the six minute mark. Unfortunately, Madonna closed the half on an 18-7 run to take a 49-39 lead into the break.

It was all MU in the second half as the Warriors just couldn't get the stops they needed to make a big run. The home team opened with six straight points and after Tech cut the deficit to 13, the Crusaders scored seven in a row to push the lead to 20. The home team built the lead to 22, but the Warriors answered with 12 of the next 16 points to get to within 14 but another spurt by MU ended the game for the Orange and Black.

Tech finished the contest 21-for-64 (32.8%) from the floor, 7-for-25 (28%) from long range and 14-for-18 (77.8%) from the line while MU shot 43.2 percent (32-for-74) from the field in the contest.

Three Warriors finished in double-figures led by Clements who tallied 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds, both team highs. Gerbers netted a career-high 11 while Carver finished with 10.

Tech will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 25 for the first round of the WHAC tournament, however the opponent and time has yet to be determined. Be sure to check back often for updates.
