@INTechBaseball's Hakes has Big Day Despite Stars Sweep

SCORE: GM 1 – IT 1, OCU 3; GM 2 – IT 15, OCU 20
RECORDS: Indiana Tech (2-8), #16 Oklahoma City (20-5)
LOCATION: Oklahoma City, Okla. (Jim Wade Stadium)
 
BRIEF: The Indiana Tech baseball team plated 16 runs on 12 hits in the final two games against No. 16 Oklahoma City, but lost both as the Stars scored 23 runs on 24 hits to sweep the three-game set. Kyle Mead and Brian Hakes highlighted the offense in game two with Mead scoring four times and Hakes driving in seven.
 
FLOW:
GAME 1
- A home run, two hits and an error gave Oklahoma City the lead after one
- Both offenses were quiet until the Stars added a run in the fourth
- Tech plated their only run in the sixth as Romer Portes doubled home Zach Fyfe
 
GAME 2
- In 20 mph winds an offensive explosion erupted
- Tech opened the game with two runs on one hit and three errors as Portes singled home Dezmon Nunn and Hakes followed with an RBI groundout to plate Mead
- A pair of bases loaded walks added to the Warriors lead and Hakes cleared the bases with a three-run triple; Steve Remesnik followed with an RBI groundout to plate Chris Gaynor for an 8-0 lead after two
- In the bottom of the frame, six hits and an error led to six runs for the home team to cut the lead to two
- After a scoreless third, Hakes plated another run with a sacrifice fly
- OCU took the lead in the fourth with seven runs on six hits making it 13-9
- In the fifth, Mark Carpenter and Mead each drove in a run while Hakes and Remesnik added two RBIs a piece to put Tech back ahead, 15-13
- Five runs on two hits and an error put the home team back in front in the fifth
- The Stars added another pair of runs in the sixth for the final margin
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
GAME 1
- Portes and Hakes tallied the Warriors two hits
- Portes drove in Fyfe for Tech's only run
- Clay Wallace took the loss but pitched well, allowing just three runs, two earned, on seven hits in five innings with nine strikeouts
 
GAME 2
- Hakes finished 3-for-4 with a game-high seven RBI's while his courtesy runner, Gaynor, scored twice
- Mead scored four times, driving in two with just one hit
- Portes also drove in two and scored twice while Remesnik collected three RBIs
- Derek Morgan and Ryne Terry also scored twice with three others scoring once
