McReynolds, Offensive Outburst Leads @INTechBaseball Past Cardinals

BRIEF: The Indiana Tech baseball team scored 10 runs on 11 hits and junior right-hander James McReynolds allowed just one hit to complete a two-game sweep of the Cardinals as the second game on Sunday was cancelled due to weather conditions. After the game the Warriors honored 11 seniors who have contributed to the baseball program.
 
FLOW:
- McReynolds worked around a first inning error and the offense gave him all the support he needed in the bottom of the frame, plating two runs on two hits and an error
- Mark Carpenter led off with a walk, stole a base, advanced to third and scored on a Romer Portes single
- Portes stole second and scored on a Matt Bandor single for the 2-0 lead
- Tech added three more runs on two hits and an error in the third
- Brian Hakes singled home Carpenter, Bandor reached on an error to score Portes and Steve Remesnik drove in Dezmon Nunn, who ran for Hakes, to push the lead to five
- The Cardinals got their first hit with one out in the sixth
- Bandor led off the sixth with a walk and scored on Chris Gaynor's RBI single
- A two-out triple by Bandor and a single by Remesnik made it 7-0 Tech
- McReynolds ended the eighth with his seventh strikeout
- Senior Caleb Heller delivered a pinch-hit two-run double and Hakes singled him in to end the game
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
- McReynolds was nearly perfect, allowing just one hit and a walk while striking out seven in eight innings
- Carpenter was a tablesetter, reaching base three times in five at-bats, scoring each time
- Bandor finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk
- Gaynor and Hakes each tallied two hits with Gaynor driving in one and Hakes collecting two RBIs
- Heller and Remesnik each added two RBIs
 
UP NEXT: The Warriors will play host to St. Francis (Ind.) and possibly Marian (Ind.) in a two-team doubleheader on Tuesday, Mar. 31 with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
