@INTechSoftball Nearly Upsets #RV Byran in Season Opener

BRIEF: The Indiana Tech softball team plated six runs on 11 hits to begin the 2015 season, but dropped a pair of games to Bryan College, who received votes in the coaches' poll. A pair of three run innings in each game did the Warriors in, but junior Sofia Johantgen got the season off to a good start, leading Tech at the plate with a 5-for-6 day. Freshman Jamie Kilps and junior Alli Watson also performed well on the mound for the Orange and Black.
 
FLOW:
Game 1
- Tech was held to just three hits in the season opener as the teams combined for just six hits and eight base runners through five and a half innings
- The Lions broke a scoreless tie in the sixth with three runs on three hits; totaling seven in the contest

Game 2
- The teams combined for 14 runs on 19 hits in the second game
- Bryan Scored first, plating two runs on four hits in the first and another run on two hits in the second
- The Warriors tied the score in the third, plating three runs on three hits after sending nine to the plate
    -Hannah Foltz plated Alexis Irvine on an RBI walk, Jessica Cotton singled home Bailey Dembinski and Johantgen scored on a Juliaclare Plezbert groundout
- Johantgen continued to stay hot, plating Dembinski with an RBI double in the fourth for the first lead of the season
- A pair of Tech errors allowed the home team to plate three runs on one hit in the fourth for a 6-4 lead
- Bryan returned the favor with a two-run error in the sixth to knot the score
- Three hits plated a pair of runs in the sixth to give Bryan the win
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Johantgen finishes the day 5-for-6 with one RBI and two runs scored
- Cotton recorded three RBIs; Dembinski scored three times
- Kilps had a solid debut allowing two runs on five hits over five innings with four strikeouts against on walk
- Alli Watson pitched in relief both games, allowing three runs on six hits in three innings
