UPLAND, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team battled for more than 103 minutes on Friday night against Taylor, but came up just short in double-overtime, falling 2-1.
The Warriors were beneficiaries of a Trojan blunder just after halftime, when the hosts accidently shot the ball into their own net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute.
The hosts would recover quickly, tying it up at one-apiece six minutes later when Shelbi Lowe shot one past Tech keeper
Alena Payne. The rest of regulation saw the two teams battle back and forth with both sides have quality chances, but unable to find the back of the net thanks to stellar goalkeeping.
After a scoreless first overtime where the Warriors were unable to fire off a shot, Nikki Zaino blasted the game-winner past Payne in the 104th minute to give the Trojans the win.
Payne finished with seven saves as her record fell to 2-2.
Indiana Tech (2-3) returns home for a nonconference matchup with Huntington University next Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and live stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
